Montrez and “Things Change”

Things Change

Montrez, my client, came to me straight out of Memphis. I heard him singing down a side alley between stores during a Crossroads festival. The music was so good, I headed down the alley to hear more. There I found an incredible R&B singer with his buddies, who called themselves “Things Change.” They were rough around the edges. Things did change for them that day. I brought them home with me.

“Things Change” practiced hours on end in my yard before performances. These young men danced across the lawn on a daily, workin’ out the baggage that came with them. They were cheated by the music industry and by the rich and famous in it. At this point the names of those who rip others off don’t really matter. Like a lot of others, I’ve been there myself. I was cheated out of my musical work back in the days of Bandstand. They each had talent independent of the others. It was great to watch the way they worked out. I filmed them. We had many laughs. Coming from Memphis they were not used to bears or wildlife. Before seeing them, I didn’t know a person could move his body in so many different ways. We built a relationship and they learned how to break things down in a way that suited everyone.

Black Diamond“Things Change” were back-up dancers for Black Diamond for five Time Warner TV specials. A person’s dream doesn’t happen without struggle. It doesn’t happen without effort. It’s easy to make it in the music industry if you know someone or if someone lays money on your a**.

Ldg MonetezThe other guys returned to Memphis, but Montrez stayed with me and became a solo artist. He joined in with L.D.G. as back up R&B vocals as he worked in studios on his own work and learning the industry. He was offered a few deals over the years. However, I remind artists that a deal isn’t a deal if you lose most of your publishing. A deal isn’t a deal if you place your future in the hands of the music industry and they own your a**.

MontrezMontrez sings from the depth of his soul and was a skilled writer and performer. He captivates his audience. He has been seen on television news specials promoting Spolarized in concert. He has performed for the After Grammy Party and many other events. Three cheers to Montrez, an awesome R&B singer…
